Premature Infatuation - Lower Definition

who: Lower Definition
why: because literally right after releasing their amazing full-length 'The Greatest of All Lost Arts' in 2008, the band unexpectedly broke up. After months of frantically searching for the right mix of new faces, Lower Definition is back and recording. I felt like shit yesterday when I heard the news about The Fall of Troy... but this makes me feel a lot better. Go catch these guys playing with A Day to Remember if you're on the west coast, you lucky bastards.

My Heart Is Fucking Broken

"Dearest friends from all corners of the world,

I write to inform you that after nearly 9 years, 5 full-lengths, 2 bass players, hundreds of shows, and numerous other achievements and follies, Andrew, Frank, and I have decided to end our career as The Fall of Troy.

This band has been my life, my love, the air I breathe, the food I eat, and what helps me sleep (and sometimes keeps me up) at night. I love and cherish the music we’ve made, the times we’ve had, and all the great friends we’ve met along the way. Andrew, Frank, and of course Tim, will always and forever have a special place in my heart. But it has come time for us to call it a day. After everything’s said and done, there is no drama, there is no blow out, it’s simply the three members of this band are on three different paths in our lives.

I always hold true to the fact that it’s better to go out in style, to ride off into the sunset, than go down in flames. This tour coming up with Envy On The Coast and Twin Atlantic will be our last go round, and we really hope that all of you will come out and celebrate what has been so unreal and unbelievable – let’s dance one last time!

We would really like to thank everyone that’s ever been involved with the band, managed the band, booked a show for us, let us eat your canned food, sleep on your floor, asked us for a picture, caught me when I’ve almost been dropped, put out a record for us, driven us through a late night drive thru, or anything else any of you could possibly look back on and enjoy what this band was…Fun.

So make sure you come out to “The Marked-Men of 2010 Tour” as it will be our last hurrah! We love you, and will be giving as much love as you’ve given to us at these shows. So that’s that! We love you with all our hearts, thank you from the very bottom of them, and goodbye comrades.

R.I.P.
TFOT
2002-2010

With A Heavy Heart,
Thomas Joseph Erak

PS. I have no intention to stop making music! Quite the opposite actually – but until then see you at the shows!"

This sucks. I feel like my parents are getting a divorce... Thomas is undoubtedly sick of the struggling but highly talented musician route he's been accustomed to these past 8 years and I hate that I have the suspicion he's he's got plans for a new project that might actually allow him some stability, but that's what's wrong with the music industry. I could go on about this for days, but the point is bad artists are getting too much money, while the unique ones are stuck in an overly saturated bin of mostly underachievers. Music shouldn't have to be for the masses, but the industry makes it appear to be. There's not really much else to say other than GO SEE THESE GUYS LIVE ON TOUR WHILE YOU'RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE THE CHANCE.

VOTW - February 26, 2010

who: Fang Island
why: I like the idea behind this band, I'm just not really sure it translates to an album I can consistently listen to... I am sure I liked this video, though.

Friday Flashback - Taking Back Sunday

who: Taking Back Sunday
why: because I miss the old TBS. And now maybe that John Nolan isn't gonna be touring with Straylight Run we should pray for a reunion? But that's probably just wishful thinking. See what I did there?

I don't know these kids. But I hope that guy got laid for doing awesome air drumming for the whole song. And I hope blondie lost her voice... forever.

Watch the real video here. And get the newly reprinted Vinyl from Victory Records.

WE'LL DO IT ACOUSTIC! - Four Year Strong

who: Four Year Strong
why: because it's good to love pop-punk again. Even when their voices crack occasionally. 'ENEMY OF THE WORLD' IS OUT IN TWO WEEKS!

LMAO! - Duncan Rocks

who: Duncan Rocks
why: because my sense of humor might be a little to easy to please... but I just can't help it. He's like a socially insensitive Kip from Napoleon Dynamite.

Waffle Fries - February 24th

Choke Up - 'Choke Up' Demo EP
tf: absolutely.

This rating may be a little premature, especially since I don't get to listen to too many true, underground hardcore bands, but I only needed a couple listens. The demo's 5 songs, 15 minutes. It's to the point, it doesn't fuck around... and I like it a lot. It won't be officially released until sometime in April, but they're offering it up for free for now... so take advantage.

The Wooden Birds - 'Montague Street' EP
tf: aight.

Insound.com's MP3 of the week comes in the form of an entire EP today, lucky you. If you're a fan of subtle head bobbing and soft indie jams, you'll like it... after I got the EP, I went and found their 2009 album 'Magnolia' too and they've both been playing in my headphones ever since.

LMAO! - Auto-Tune the News #10

who: schmoyoho
why: maybe it's just me... but these are pretty much fail-proof.

New Release Tuesday - February 23

[01.]

Electric President - 'The Violent Blue'
tf: fasho.

What's new to me may not be new to you... this is their third full-length release, but the first that I've had the pleasure of listening to. Down-tempo beautiful melodies. Acoustic strings covered by ambient tones, piano keys and harmonies. An addicting vocal style like some sort of combination between Ben Gibbard and Andy Hull (atleast that's what I'm getting). Point is, get this album. Like now.

[02.]
Alkaline Trio - 'This Addiction'
tf: aight.

These guys are getting old. This is their 7th full-length album in a little more than a decade, but unlike most bands - they keep writing good stuff. If you're a die-hard fan of the band, you've had this album for months since it leaked... and if you're not that big a fan, you probably won't really think it's anything that great. It's probably my favorite album they've put out since 'From Here to the Infirmary' in 2001... the band's gone through some really tough shit and they're finally getting it out in this release.

[03.]
Fang Island - 'Fang Island'
tf: ehhh.

Don't really have too much to say about this album... they have some pretty cool, weird instrumentation that's fun for a few tracks, but I don't really see myself listening to the entire thing any time soon.

Attention! - Where the Ocean Meets the Sky

who: Where the Ocean Meets the Sky
why: because their debut EP 'Sexy!' was released practically unnoticed last year, and it was a shame because it's awesome. A lot of people complain that these genres are overpopulated with bad bands trying to get big through myspace, and they're probably right, but but these guys are an exception to the rule. Someone needs to sign them quick.

WE'LL DO IT ACOUSTIC! - Alkaline Trio

who: Alkaline Trio
why: have been around forever, and unlike a lot of bands - they keep putting out good tunes.

LMAO - Straight Owned

who: Kimbo Slice's grandpa
why: also has a sweet beard. When he rides the subway, he doesn't care what you look like. He's not prejudiced. He'll kick the shit out of anyone.

WE'LL DO IT LIVE! - Foxy Shazam

who: Foxy Shazam
why: have their new self-titled album coming out April 13th. You should get it.

Saturday, February 20, 2010

Premature Infatuation - Get Him to the Greek

who: Jonah Hill, Russell Brand, Aziz Ansari, Nick Kroll
why: because it's a spin-off of Russell's character from 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' co-written by Jason Segel, so you know it's gonna be good. Check it out in theaters JUNE 4TH.

Watch Out - Vampire Weekend

who: Vampire Weekend
why: have released a celebrity-littered video for "Giving Up the Gun" off of this year's 'Contra'.

Friday Flashback - My Bloody Valentine

who: My Bloody Valentine
why: because I saw this sweet series of video clips from the film 'Lost In Translation' set to their song "Sometimes" on my friend mcnotjt's tumblr and had to post it. Enjoy.

VOTW - February 19, 2010

who: Local Natives
why: because I've been talking about these guys for weeks, and if you've somehow still managed to ignore them, here's another opportunity for you to bask in their glory. This is a home video released on the band's blog set to their song "Wide Eyes". GO GET THEIR ALBUM!

Attention! - The Appreciation Post

who: The Appreciation Post
why: because in my last post a few hours ago I gave you a link to their free EP 'Work/Sleep' and I just got around to giving it a listen. This video for "The Beating of a Lifetime" reminds me of a pretty killer combination of The Starting Line, Hellogoodbye and Motion City Soundtrack - the good shit that used to get me pumped for my early mornings. Make sure you [Download] the EP (they want you to!) and look out for these guys in the future.

who: Alexisonfire
why: just lost all 12 of their fans. They were playing a show at the Olympics when some people apparently started a pit that destroyed a barrier and resulted in the show's cancellation. Listen as they slowly realize what's going on.

Premature Infatuation - Circa Survive

who: Circa Survive
why: sounds real real good right now. I've been hearing rumors and watching studio updates on Youtube about the new album that has finally been announced. April 21st - mark your calendars, 'Blue Sky Noise' is hyped to be one of this year's best.

WE'LL DO IT LIVE! - Four Year Strong

who: Four Year Strong
why: perform a new song titled "What the Hell is a Gigawatt?". I'm pumped for March 9th!

New Release Tuesday - February 16, 2010

Here's the ridiculously good list of releases you need to check out this week:

[05.]
A Silver Mt. Zion - 'Kollaps Tradixionales'

tf: not yet rated.

I know virtually nothing about this band... I've literally never heard a song, so this post is solely due to hype and friendly recommendations. It's currently listed on my friend Ray's [AMOTA] 2010 list at #12 so I'm curious to give it a listen.

[04.]
tf:

I generally hate it when I hear people say "all the songs sound the same"... but in this case I won't really be able to disagree. I'll never be the biggest fan of Angels & Airwaves, but they've put out a couple good records in the past and 'Love' doesn't seem to be advancing their sound any further... bring me some Blink, already.

[03.]
The Forecast - 'The Forecast'
tf: fasho.

It seems like today's music market is being consistently flooded with more and more indie/pop bands lacking any real substance. Luckily for The Forecast, they've still got it. It's been four years since their last LP release 'In The Shadow of Two Gunmen', and I don't mind that they've taken the time to release something worth listening to. I have a feeling that as the happier spring and summer months approach, I'll find myself blasting this record through my headphones on a daily basis.

[02.]
Jamie's Elsewhere - 'They Said A Storm Was Coming'
tf: yaysh.

One of my new favorite bands on Victory Records, I was initially a big fan of their debut EP 'Goodbye Rocketman, St. George Is Under Fire' but Aaron Pauley and the boys have completely redefined their sound. Taking on an edge much like you would expect to find in Sky Eats Airplane, Attack Attack! or I Set My Friends On Fire, Jamie's Elsewhere has stepped it up.

[01.]
Local Natives - 'Gorilla Manor'
tf: absolutely.

Easily the best thing I've heard this year... I've been all about this band since I was first introduced. Amazing from start to finish, you won't be disappointed - it's a promise. "Airplanes" is going to be the title track of my upcoming Spring Mixtape, so be on the lookout for that and just do whatever you need to do to get your hands on the album (I bought the vinyl HERE.)

Watch Out - A Day to Remember

who: A Day to Remember
why: have released a music video for "The Downfall of Us All" from 2009's 'Homesick'.

BONUS LINK: check out another video that was finally made public for ADTR's holiday song "Right Where You Want Me to Be".

who: Jason Segel
why: is my valentine.

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Friday, February 12, 2010

VOTW - February 12, 2010

who: The Thermals
why: because this song has been stuck in my head all week. I'd say sorry if it happens to you too... but you'll just end up thanking me.

NEW! Friday Flashback - The Hush Sound

who: The Hush Sound
why: released their debut album 'So Sudden' on October 11th, 2005. Here's the only video I could find from it for "Crawling Towards the Sun".

Thursday, February 11, 2010

Premature Infatuation - Portugal. The Man

who: Portugal. The Man
why: has announced 'American Ghetto' will be released on March 2nd.

... - Juggalo Dad

who: muthaf***in wicked clowns
why: know what I'm sayin?... Someone please help that baby.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Waffle Fries - February 10, 2010

who: The Forecast | Sweatshirt Weather | Trash Kit
why: I'm going to try and make this a weekly thing now because I've been finding a lot of bands offering promotional mp3s or even albums lately and if they're willing to give it away, I'm willing to listen.

why: ftw. Her EP is out now and you should totally go buy it. This is her newest video for the title track of the EP "I Think You Know". God damnit she's so cute.

Premature Infatuation - Double Dose

who: Four Year Strong
why: have posted another new song from their upcoming release 'Enemy of the World' titled "Wasting Time (Eternal Summer)" through AbsolutePunk. Check out the stream by clicking here, and look forward to the album's release on March 9th!

why: have posted the first glimpse of their new album 'Year of the Black Rainbow' on their personal website. Click here to stream it and look for the album's release April 13th.

it's cold as shit outside so Bundle Up!... with covers.

Monday, February 8, 2010

WE'LL DO IT LIVE! - Beach House

who: Beach House
why: because their album 'Teen Dream' has been the most soothing album released thus far in 2010, and will probably continue to grow on me and climb the charts. Here's a special 5 song performance they recently recorded for Pitchfork TV.

LMAO! - My Man Jalen

who: my man Jalen
why: is a stud and even though all the other Doritos ads sucked, this little dude earned them best Super Bowl commercial.
